The Grandstands at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio, were scheduled to be demolished after the 2006 110th Cuyahoga County Fair. The 94-year-old bench seating grandstand was constructed with steep stairs, no wheelchair access and has been rapidly disintegrating. Deciding that the cost to repair and maintain the old grandstand and correct the accessibility issues would be vastly prohibitive, the county opted to replace the stands with bleacher seating, similar to high school stadium seating. The new stands, to be constructed at a cost of $950,000, will seat 3,000, surpassing the original seating of 1800.
Thanks to John Z of The Tractor Club for sharing his photos of the grandstand demolition which began the day following the closing of the 2006 County Fair
and for these photos taken May, 2007 of the new grandstand & new building.
